I started in grade school on the piano. In junior high, I took up the violin and played in the orchestra. Not until senior high did I move to the flute and piccolo, instruments I played in both the orchestra and the band. Prior to World War II I was very active in music, performing with two orchestras. Post-WWII, I worked as a machine designer and did almost nothing related to music. I sold my flute and didn't play a single note, until 1987. It was then that I once again picked up a flute and, several years later, joined the Peninsula Symphonic Band, which I've been with now for eleven years. I'm still trying to catch up, but with little success. Marches and polkas are by far my favorite types of music.
